English Language Program
Evolved from online to in-person English classes focused on communication, writing, and academic skills. We provide financial support for teachers and students.
Overview
The English Language Program is one of our most dynamic and impactful initiatives, providing Afghan women and girls with crucial language skills that open doors to global opportunities. What began as emergency online classes in 2022 has evolved into a comprehensive hybrid program combining online and in-person instruction, reaching students who would otherwise have no access to quality English education.
Impact
English proficiency is more than just a skill—it's a gateway to higher education, international scholarships, remote work opportunities, and global connections. For Afghan women forbidden from formal education, English language skills represent a form of quiet resistance and a pathway to economic independence. Our program has helped dozens of students secure scholarships, remote employment, and admission to international universities. The program's transformative impact is visible in both individual achievements and broader community effects. Students who complete advanced levels report dramatic improvements in self-confidence and communication abilities. Many have leveraged their English skills to access online education platforms, participate in international webinars and conferences, and connect with global professional networks. The economic impact is significant: program graduates working in remote positions contribute essential income to their families, often becoming the primary breadwinners in households where male employment has been disrupted. Beyond economic benefits, English proficiency opens doors to critical information and resources. Students can access health information, legal resources, educational materials, and international news that would otherwise be unavailable. This knowledge empowerment enables women to make informed decisions about their lives and advocate for their rights more effectively. The program has also created a supportive community of English learners who share resources, practice together, and support each other's professional and educational goals. Many graduates have become peer mentors, helping newer students navigate their learning journey and career aspirations.
Methodology
Our curriculum covers all language competencies: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Classes are structured around practical communication skills, academic English, and professional vocabulary. We provide financial support for both qualified teachers and students who cannot afford learning materials. Small class sizes ensure personalized attention, and our instructors use interactive teaching methods that build confidence and fluency. Students progress through beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, with regular assessments and personalized feedback. Each level of instruction is carefully designed with clear learning objectives and measurable outcomes. Beginner classes focus on fundamental grammar, essential vocabulary, and basic conversation skills, using real-world scenarios relevant to students' daily lives. Intermediate classes expand into more complex grammatical structures, idiomatic expressions, and nuanced communication. Advanced classes prepare students for academic and professional contexts, including essay writing, formal presentations, and specialized vocabulary for various career fields. Our hybrid delivery model combines the flexibility of online learning with the engagement of in-person sessions. Online components allow students to learn at their own pace, access recorded lessons, and participate in discussion forums. In-person classes, held in safe, vetted locations, provide opportunities for intensive speaking practice, group activities, and direct interaction with instructors. This dual approach accommodates students with varying schedules, security concerns, and learning preferences. Assessment is comprehensive and ongoing, including written exams, oral presentations, participation scores, and portfolio assessments of student work. We provide detailed feedback on both strengths and areas for improvement, with specific recommendations for continued development. Progress tracking enables students to see their advancement over time and motivates continued learning. Students also have access to supplemental resources including online practice exercises, language learning apps, digital libraries, and conversation practice groups with native English-speaking volunteers.
